In northern Norway, a concrete cluster has been established that focuses on concrete and construction work in the Arctic climate (temperature colder than 5 degrees celsius.) The group consists of 32 companies covering the entire value chain in concrete work.
The purpose of the cluster project is to utilize new technology and new methods that extend construction season and contribute to full-year work. In the arena, the group is also actively working with competence development by offering relevant courses and education in the north. The group has had 5 joint gatherings with various builders like Statnett, Statkraft, The Norwegian Coastal Administration (Kystverket) and The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens vegvesen). During the last joint meeting in Mo i Rana, 31 participants in the concrete industry and R & D participated. The workshop included among other things, infrastructure projects at Helgeland, Acquisition in the Public Roads Administration, new concrete types as well as prefab opportunities. A visit to Celsa Steel Service and a guided tour at Mo Industripark was organized in advance prior to the workshop. An engage group contributed to good discussions and networks. It has now laid a good foundation for further cooperation. Concrete in cold climate is very relevant to the North Calotte since it operates in cold and dark climate several days a year. Forskningsparken is therefore searching for partners in northern Sweden and northern Finland where the cluster can be expanded with several actors.
